This website is, overall, about photography. The photography of the great spaces of the brazilian interlands, the amplitude of their sky, their fields and their mountains. And is dedicated to all the people that already trod, slowly and gently, through their paths and their roads.
Photography, more than just a mere faithful copy and exact reproduction, has the power of freezing the moment, stopping the time and keeping the memory. Roland Barthes, in “La chambre claire”, says that what the photography reproduces to the infinite, just happened once: it repeats mechanically what it can never be repeated existentially.
When we take a picture of a landscape that enchants us, when we document this same landscape deadly hurt by the irresponsible exploration of natural resources, when we register the daily routine of the cattle dealer at his work, when we make immortal the images of a reserve with its beautiful cerrado trees, when we interview the anonymous characters who have been disappearing in the haze of the time, we are making photography and helping preserve the memory.
All the photographies and texts are authoring of Andre Monteiro, except when clearly informed.
